The younger sister of the main character, Nio disappears some time before Atelier Ayesha even begins. At the start of the game the player is only given the details that she was out gathering herbs for her sister when she suddenly vanished.
While she does not appear in the game much, aside from a ghostly visage that servers to drive Ayesha forward in her quest, she does appear several times during the investigation throughout the game world.
