Laura is a character created by Warp Inc. She was conceptualized as a "digital actress", a character who could appear as a different characters in each of Warp's games. While she maintained the first name Laura in all three games she appeared in, each one gives her a different last name to further separate her from previous appearances. In the lead-up to D2, Kenji Eno stated that Warp planned to retire Laura after D2's release.
On top of her appearances in games, Laura was featured on the cover of Japanese fashion magazine High Fashion's August 1999 issue, as part of a promotion for D2.
