He is particularly renowned for being one of the greatest tacticians of all time. He was prince of Carthage, a Semitic Phoenician kingdom in present-day Tunisia, North Africa (Location). He was well known for his use of elephantsin battle and famous tactics such as the double-envelopment maneuver, which he successfully used against the Romans at the famous Battle of Cannae.
