Overview
Hanako is a figure of a popular Japanese urban legend. While variations of the legend exist, she is commonly said to be the ghost of a girl from the World War II era that haunts a school restroom. (The school in question usually being the school of whoever is telling the tale.) If someone visits the girl's restroom on the third floor of the school, knocks three times on the third toilet stall door and asks "Hanako, are you there?" she will respond, and will appear if the stall door is opened.
