Overview
Gilbert is one of the many unseen NPCs the player can interact with throughout Yharnam. Though unlike most of the NPCs, Gilbert will assist the player by providing information and a guideline of where to go -- and will even eventually hand the player a Flamesprayer firearm. However Gilbert is afflicted with the plague that has gripped Yharnam and turning people into beasts. Once the 'Rom, The Vacuous Spider' boss has been killed, returning to Gilbert's window will show he has become a beast; killing him will grant the player the Clawmark rune, which increases the player's visceral attack damage.
Trivia
Should the player attack Gilbert's window he will respond by demanding the player to stop this nonsense. If the player persists then he assumes the player too has gone mad and will no longer respond. He will still ultimately become a beast himself, however.
