Duncan
A highly revered Gray Warden, Duncan is a friend and mentor to the character. Tasked with commanding the Grey Wardens at Ostagar, Duncan assists King Cailan and Teryn Loghain in their plans to thwart the darkspawn.

History
Like many others, Duncan gave up his family name when he joined the ranks of the Wardens: a symbolic gesture of cutting ties. He might say this was a convenience in his case, however. His mother was from the Anderfels, his father from Rivain, and he spent his childhood in the Free Marches and Orlais. His people were everywhere and his homeland was nowhere. He was given the almost impossible task of leading the Wardens in Ferelden: a kingdom that had thrown the order out two hundred years earlier. Facing local suspicion and hostility, he set about finding recruits. Duncan was originally conscripted into the ranks of the grey wardens in Orlais by the Orlesian warden commander Genevieve. In Dragon Age: Origins, Duncan recruits the player into the ranks of the Grey Wardens in anticipation of a battle against the darkspawnat Ostagar (Location). During the battle, Duncan witnesses the death of King Cailan (Character) at the hands of an Ogre and singlehandedly defeats the creature. He is killed in action after Teyrn Loghain (Character) unexpectedly withdraws his forces, leaving the Grey Wardens without reinforcements.
