Duessel has a total of four supports: Ephraim, Cormag, Amelia, Knoll. In his conversation with Ephraim, the lord apologizes to him for making him side against Grado, but the knight won't have any of that. They then think back to when Duessel first taught Ephraim to use lances. Back then, the little lord couldn't even hold a spear. And even then, the little lord had decided to challenge HIM, a general. He lost, of course, but Ephraim makes it a point that one must respect his opponent, not obey him. They then agree to a duel after the battle is over. When next they meet, Ephraim challenges Duessel to another duel since it appears that Duessel has bested him last time. When next they meet, Ephraim has won, and Duessel has mixed feelings about not having anything left to teach Ephraim. The lord thinks that is nonsense since he intends to be the best spearman of Magvel. Duessel believes the statement is a bit bold, but he is glad to fight alongside a student like Ephraim. His only regret is that he's betrayed his emperor, to which Ephraim replies that Duessel is no traitor. Grado betrayed the last true man of their kingdom.
