Derek Jeter is a retired Major League Baseball (Concept) player who spend his 20-year major league career as a shortstop (and occasional designated hitter) for the New York Yankees (Concept). He holds several hitting records, and has long been extremely popular with fans, players, and the press.

He was named the 11th Yankee team captain in 2003, the first since Don Mattingly's retirement in 1995. Jeter won five world series titles with the New York Yankees in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2009. He leads the team in all-time hits, passing Lou Gehrig for the title during the 2009 season.

Jeter was a 14-time all-star, 4-time New York Yankee player of the year, 3-time gold glover, 2000 All-Star game MVP, 2000 World Series MVP, and 1996 rookie of the year. He is the all-time hits leader among MLB shortstops, with a .317 lifetime batting average.

Jeter announced his retirement before his final season in 2014, and was honored with many gifts and ceremonies when the Yankees visited various ballparks across the country.
