Overview

Virtua Fighter Remix is a 3D fighting game developed by Sega AM2 (along with Sega AM1) and released by Sega (Company) for arcades (using their Saturn (Platform)-based ST-V hardware) on April 1995. It is an updated revision of the original 1993 Virtua Fighter (Game), building on the original's Sega Saturn release with higher-quality texture-mapped 3D models while retaining most of the original gameplay. Unlike the original, this version was released on cheaper Saturn-based arcade hardware. This version later received a home release for the Sega Saturn in Japan on July 14, 1995, with a worldwide release on October 1995. Owners of the Saturn in North America, which had the original game as a pack-in, had an opportunity to register at the time to received the Remix version by mail for free. On July 27, 1996, the game received a special re-release in Japan supporting the system's XBAND peripheral (the only Saturn fighting game to do so) for online multiplayer. The game also received a release on Windows PCs on August 31, 1996 as Virtua Fighter PC, adding a new team-based mode. A second PC version, known as Virtua Fighter Remix, was distributed in later Diamond Edge 3D multimedia cards, supporting the cards' Nvidia NV1 chipset (which also powered the Saturn).

All nine characters from the original return, each with updated appearances and costumes.

Akira Yuki - A kung fu teacher from Japan, specializing in the striking martial art of Hakkyoku-ken ("Eight Extremities Fist", or bājíquán).
Pai Chan - An action film star from Hong Kong, who fights with the agile martial art of Ensei-ken ("Lost Track Fist", or mízōngquán).
Lau Chan - A famous chef from China and Pai's father, who fights with his own unique martial art of Koen-ken ("Tiger-Swallow Fist", or hǔyànquán).
Wolf Hawkfield - A Native American professional wrestler from Canada, who fights in the tournament with wrestling techniques.
Jeffry McWild - An indigenous fisherman from Australia, who fights with heavyweight pancratium.
Kage-Maru - A traditional ninja from Japan, who fights with agile jujutsu.
Sarah Bryant - A college student from the United States, who fights with Jeet Kune Do.
'Jacky Bryant' - An indy car driver from the United States and Sarah's older brother, who also fights with Jeet Kune Do.
Dural - A mysterious metallic gynoid and the game's bonus boss using techniques from all other fighters. Only playable with cheat codes.
