Special Limited Collectors Edition! WIP

by johnny5

Special edition video games (also called collectors or limited) have been around for a while and offer some limited run or otherwise unobtainable items as bonuses for paying a little extra. Items commonly included are special packaging, maps, soundtracks, art books and occasionally a making of DVD. The amount of high quality nonstandard goods included in a special edition usually pertains to amount of hype associated with the game, the more hype the larger the lengths publishers will be willing to go to impress. Some publishers will go far beyond the norm and go to great lengths to have an impressive and unique special edition. These are the games I want to show you.

Halo 3

This game hardly needs an introduction being one of the most popular games of late. Games like this are the ones that warrant special editions. In the case of Halo 3; two special editions, special edition consoles, mountain dew limited editions, headsets and controllers. The lot. However threw the mountains of standard crazy items there is the Master Chief helmet, the object of desire for many during the games release. One of the cooler collectors edition items.

The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion

The long awaited free roaming RPG; Oblivion. The game that set the pace for all future RPGs. The most interesting piece of the collectors edition had to be the septim replica (the in game currency). You may not know this but the replica coin was so good that one of the first mods was a septim coin mod where a user used pictures of the coin to make better in game textures!. However the bonus DVD is also an interesting look into the development and staff of the game behind the scenes.

The collectors edition includes: ...SHINY!?

Game Disk and Manual
World Map
Bonus DVD
Septim Coin

...and The Pocket Guide to the Empire

World in Conflict

World in Conflict collectors edition is one of my personal favorites, not because the game is awesome (it is) but because of the unique pieces you got in the collectors edition. There are in fact four different versions of the collectors edition. Case packaging ranges from wood, cloth and metal! Let me put all that aside for a second though to think about the fact that you get a piece of the Berlin Wall! (:O) in the American package.

Fallout 3

A more recent title with a long history that has sparked quite a big debate online. What is not in debate though is how cool the collectors editions are. Following the same sort of style as Oblivion they include more than just the regular DVDs and art books.
