Giant Bomb - a website about video games and the people that make them

rasgueado's Articles

This is my eighth year running as a member of the Giant Bomb team, and I've really enjoyed every one of them! It's really awesome to see the variety and creativity that people pour into their streams. It's something I've come to look forward to every fall, and this one is no different! It seems like a lot of discussion for this is on the discord now, but I also wanted to put up my schedule for...

Even though there hasn't been a blog post here for a few years, I've still been running for Extra Life! Instead of posting here, I had been posting updates on the stream into the official community thread. This year I'm going to do both! I'm just away in New York City at the moment, but when I get back the final plans for the day this year will start to come into place. As soon as everything is...

I'm back again for a 6th year for Extra Life! It's been a hard year with everything that has been happening around the world, but we're going to keep things going this year for the kids! Last year the schedule was a little more sparse, with some more time spent on a few fewer games. This year, I'm going back the other way and running a new game every hour with the exception of 2. (Edit:) Thankf...

Hoo boy, have I not looked at this page in quite some time. There are a lot of things between 2010 and now that I would like to delete from this site forever. Oh well I suppose... I'm stuck having to live with it. The best I can say is that there were about 9ish years of severe depression and anxiety fueling that content. Let's uhm... just do our best to ignore that and move on I suppose.

So... I've been pretty lucky the last few years. I've worked/lucked myself into a position I like that pays an ok wage. I've met an amazing person that... I really can't envision life without at this point. I've been able to move into an apartment that... I have no idea how such an amazing place is possible. I've also had to work so much this year, that of my 7 weeks of vacation (boo hoo for me...

I should have made this post earlier... but better late than never! 10 days ago, I decided I would stream a different numbered Final Fantasy game every day in the lead up to the release of Final Fantasy XV! So far... I've played through 1 - 10... and tonight I'll be digging into Final Fantasy XI: Online! It took a little bit of finagling, but... I was able to get something up and running! If yo...

Extra Life 2016 is tomorrow! Starting at 9am I will be running a constant live stream of games until 9am on Sunday! You'll be able to find my stream running over at Beam ( http://beam.pro/Rasgueado )! I'm going to be playing a wide array of action games, RPG's, strategy games, FMV games, and ... a text adventure? I'm still getting everything setup, and I don't have a good sense of exactly what...

I have been sitting on the sidelines for too many years. This year has been the one where I wanted to try and give something back to the people around me that live in a place I have come to love as my home. This November I saw the opportunity to help raise money for the BC Children's Hospital, and decided that this would be the year I would actually try to do something. So what does that mean?...

Shane Koyczan is a spoken word artist that has been around for a number of years now. He has released about 4 albums of work, some that are with and without musical accompaniment. I've been watching with interest as the music portion of his presentations have continued to evolve. Early in August he released his latest (and I think strongest) compilation titled Silence Is A Song I Know All The W...

Any subscribers that have watched the recent Lantern Run, and then read the subsequent posts by Ryan already know what is going on. The short of it is, he said something in frustration that he immediately realized that he shouldn't have, and then apologized. It was that simple. To my mind, the reaction is more meaningful than the event in this case. The problem, as is always the case, the commu...

I'm completely blown away by this story: http://www.cbc.ca/m/touch/politics/story/2011/10/21/raitt-air-canada-flight-attendants.html It's incredible to me that such a thing is even being suggested by the federal government. This is the kind of statement we always think is behind the decision making process of the conservatives, but that none of them would be brazen, or stupid enough, to suggest...

I'm an impatient person as it turns out. Last week I pre-ordered and pre-loaded Duke Nukem Forever on Steam. On Thursday I received a fairly large patch for the game, which is what reminded me that it was in fact released in other territories around the world on that day. I couldn't wait until Tuesday with the knowledge that the final product was out there... I really wanted to actually play th...

It's been about five months since my last entry that I claimed would be "placeholder for now." It's about as good a time as any to get back to that entry, and in some ways it's an even more poignant time to finish it off. I went on a major tear in the fall of last year after the relaunch of www.gog.com. There were a lot of games that they were releasing (or had already released), that I either...

I was reading an article this morning on Joystiq that was discussing the multiplayer mode in Dead Space 2 . In that article the author, David Hinkle, makes this statement in his very first sentence: "One thing that hurt the sales of the first Dead Space was its lack of multiplayer." That's a fairly bold position to take as he provides zero information to back this claim up. I'm certainly not in...

I felt as if I might throw down a few more thoughts on my stated feelings regarding Dragon Age in a slightly more expressive and cogent form than a status update. I will state for the record, that these are opinions and feelings that I have based on my own experiences with this product. It is by no means absolute; any feelings or opinions that differ on the matter I view as being valid points o...

I would attach this blog post to a forum... but I'm too chickenshit to read even *one* stupid fucking response. My exposure to the Halo community suggests there are far more than just one blithering idiot among the ranks. I just read a story on Joystiq from Comic Con where the guys from 343 Industries went on the record as saying they're continuing the Master Chief story. I'm sure there are som...

I thought I would do something stupid and try and stay awake until the release of Limbo this evening. I've been doing some forum surfing during the waiting period (between rounds of Alien Swarm ) and it seems as if the 1-2am release time has been missed quite frequently as of late. Please don't misunderstand me... I'm not upset; feeling anger over not being able to play a game at 2am is ridicul...

I've finally had the chance to sit down with the new weapons released today for Shattered Horizon, and I'm pleased to say that I think they do a great job at mixing up, and improving a game that I already really enjoyed playing. Futuremark has done a fairly thoughtful job of inserting relatively traditional weapons, and implementing them in a manner that encourages players to alter how they wil...

I didn't have a whole lot of time to delve too deeply into the new content that Valve offered up yesterday for Left for Dead 2, but I did get a chance to play through the campaign on my own one time. I'll admit that I've taken a little bit of a break from the game over the last few months, but I was reminded just how awesome this game is with last night's new additions! (I won't be discussion s...

Why is it that every time Roger Ebert decides to say something about video games, everyone seems to arch their backs and hiss like a petulant cat. It's not the passion that sets me at odds with this reaction, but the lack of thought. Why in the world would anyone let the words of a man who writes articles regarding his thoughts about movies for a newspaper in Chicago get so far under their skin...

I've been reading reviews for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and noticed that a lot of them seem to share in the idea that the single player campaign isn't all that great. When I read statement like, "...the single-player game is just plain not fun , ( citation )" I can't help but wonder if we're playing the same game. I certainly would never go so far as to say that his opinion is wrong. Only the...

It seems to happen fairly early in the year for me pretty consistently now. For the past few years, there is usually some shooter that I pick up playing in the winter months that I really enjoy playing. Well it seems to be that not only do I have a carry over from the previous year, but there are two others that I started playing this year that I am also really enjoying. From last year... I'm s...

Sat down and played a little Bad Company 2 for a little bit tonight. That game is pretty good. I booted up Crysis again right after playing that. That game is still really good... and looks *really* good.

I know there are many people out there who are confused and angry over the recent action taken by Activision by firing the studio heads from Infinity Ward. It might not make any sense why you would fire the two people in charge of one of your most successful franchises, but this is business. It isn't supposed to make any sense... it's just supposed to make money (or... cents if you will). I kno...

I sometimes don't know why I bother allowing myself to get suckered into it, but every time the "gay" issue is brought up on the message board I feel the need to say something. I don't really know why honestly. It doesn't ever help, and the arguments are *exactly* the same every time. It's almost like clockwork actually. If you were to go back and look through the thread's talking about the way...

Last night before going to bed, I booted up Steam and noticed that Shattered Horizon was going to be free to play this weekend, in addition to being sold for half price. I decided that this was an opportunity not to pass up, so I signed up for the free weekend (read: downloaded it). After thirty minutes of play, I would highly recommend that you give this game a try should you have the PC hardw...

I just caught this story from Rock, Paper, Shotgun. Apparently someone has gone and added proper mouselook functionality in addition to some other existing improvements to resolution and readability for the original System Shock! I can say, quite seriously, that this still stands as my favorite game. Even in this original 1994 engine, I still play this game from time to time. This game still ho...

It isn't perfect... but I'm almost totally happy with my starship name and registry number in Star Trek Online. The only thing that makes the number not perfect is the fact that there needs to be a 9 at the beginning... otherwise, it's almost a perfect music reference in both cases of the text name and number name. Title: USS Montgomery Reg #: NCC-936251 I haven't had much of a chance to check...

I was a little upset when my Xbox 360 gave up the ghost this week (exactly 1 hour before Shadow Complex released in actual fact). Earlier today while making breakfast, I decided to run the Gaygamer.net podcast, I was suddenly made aware of a few facts that I had not previously known about author Orson Scott Card. Even more to the point, they discussed some issues that have also come about on th...

I'm a little drunk... so this will likely be somewhat unfocused. I've heard people bitch about monster closets ever since Doom 3 was released. The strange thing about that, the only game that really has seemed to have been "tarred" with this moniker has been Doom 3 . The thing that blows my mind about this, is that monster closets have been around for years... and long before Doom 3 was ever re...

I went by the Gamespot page today to see if they decided to post anything remotely interesting. One of the top links leads to an interview with "composer" Nobuo Uematsu... the article was already losing points for lack of originality. No one cares, but after watching this thing and reading the comments (from what I assume are people who can muster enough thought to actually type words?) I felt...

Well... after 5 years, I've finally gone and updated my computer system from the ground up. My system was pretty old... though it still ran a lot of games pretty well. Certain aspects of my rig however still surprised many people... the most of which was the fact I was still running a CRT monitor. I am now running a brand new core i7 system with a Geforce GTX 275 and a brand new LCD monitor tha...

I haven't had much of a chance to try this out since it happened, but I finally downloaded the surprisingly large update and booted into this afternoon. It might just be me, but I don't remember having this many sound options in the game before (someone please correct me if this is wrong). There are a lot of music tracks in there now, and some of em are actually pretty good. A lot of them also...

It's a little bit ghetto in some respects, but there is still something fun and interesting about this game. I'll have more to say about it once I figure it out.

The following post is going to be somewhat banal. This is, somewhat unfortunately, due to the fact that I have been drinking a little bit. I decided to pick myself up a copy of GRID the other day. This is a game that I had intended to play some time ago because I actually quite like the racing games that Codemasters has put out. I have played the Colin McCrae series for many years; I credit thi...

I played through the demo the morning before I left for work, and I have to say that this is a game I really want to play now. The first person gameplay really works at making the moves more exciting than they would be if the camera were pulled back a distance behind your character. It makes the action and the jump turns more exciting; it also heightens tension as you approach the edge of build...

I just hit level 20 in Too Human , and I'm taking a break for some food and life. Having gone a good chunk into this game now, I am completely confused by a lot of the reactions that people are having to this game. It's really at the point where it sounds like they're playing some other game entirely. The first critique that I notice is the graphics. I've seen people say this game is flat out u...

It will never cease to amaze me. The kind of glee that the denizens of the interwebs seem to mine out of the sorrow of others. Nearly every "news" blog out there that is reporting on the "scores" being submitted by reviewers is full of comments from people gloating about how bad a game is that they haven't played (Retail, or demo). Granted I haven't played the retail release as of this writing,...

Greetings, As my exposure to internet communities has expanded, my thirst for spraying undirected energy (read: words) for everyone to read has become something of a distasteful activity over time. I don't think most people care about how many insects are in my home, whether or not I have won the lottery, and how my love life is going. I have better places to express myself in that manner which...
