Oh Internet... So Full of Eidolons

I sometimes don't know why I bother allowing myself to get suckered into it, but every time the "gay" issue is brought up on the message board I feel the need to say something. I don't really know why honestly. It doesn't ever help, and the arguments are *exactly* the same every time. It's almost like clockwork actually.  
 
If you were to go back and look through the thread's talking about the way homophobic language is used on Xbox Live, the sequence of responses is almost identical. It takes roughly the same number of posts and pages for the same tired sets of arguments to get thrown into the arena; it also takes the same number of pages for the really idiotic trolls to claw themselves out from under their bridge and chime in with their anonymous bullshit. At least I felt like I got some good solid slams in this time. It really is a little bit satisfying. 
 
I think the next time this kind of thing pops up though... I'll be sitting out. I'm just losing my patience honestly. The "discussion" is getting so nonsensical and foolish that I don't even want to be a part of a conversation at that *low* of a level anymore. I'm especially tired of the nit picky bullshit that a lot of people love to bring up. Like the fact that gay used to be used as a term for "happy" means anything at all anymore. They fucking *love* to trot that little factoid out and put it up on a banner like it somehow makes everything alright. The only problem--and I'm grateful to see the occasional person say it--is that NO ONE TALKS LIKE THAT ANYMORE. It's a ridiculous argument because no one uses those words in those ways anymore, and *anyone* (especially in North America) who tries to say different is just talking shit. That argument is fucking grade school. Just grow the fuck up and take a little bit of responsibility for what you say.  
 
My goal right now is actually almost the opposite. When I see people in these little message forums making these stupid arguments, I almost *want* to goad them on. I *want* to get them to just fess up to the fact that they use those words in that way. I *want* them to call me a faggot, because at least THEN they would be being honest. I want people to know that I am not commanding them to *not* use these words, but I want them to fess up about why and how they are actually using them. If you want to use the word faggot, than use it... but be fucking honest about it. I have no more time and patience for cowards.
