Giant Bomb - a website about video games and the people that make them

Multiplayer games seem to be an escalating form of competition, and fighting games can be some of the most intense multiplayer games, seeing as it's direct 1 on 1 conflict. Also, for the most part, the companies that are known as fighting game companies have revamped their games to an incredible degree, making them minimalist affairs in the face of their predecessors. That return to ease of use...

(Backstory: At one point this year, I was going to start a website. A few of you knew, a few of you were asked to work on it, et cetera. Well, that collapsed. This was the first review that was going to go up on the website.) Life is full and wonderful. There are things of all kinds; materials, distractions, ideas, people, animals, energy, light, shadows, and tools. Of course, the development o...

I've heard all these great stories about music and it's effects on people, of the urgency to make music, and the people who got attached to that music. The visceral, spiritual power that music had. I've listened to people like Henry Rollins telling stories about how the first time he saw The Ramones, how it changed the entire direction of his life, and how he and his friend Ian MacKaye, were in...

I am tired of trying to figure out what you guys want without talking to you, or figuring out what happens from errant bits of conversation I overhear. TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK, and be as frank as possible! For those needing a link to the podcast, you can try on iTunes, or braving our terrible site here. What is your overall impression of the show? What parts of the show do you enjoy? Would you l...

So, to make up for being a big pot of fail for teh whole album endeavor, I've been productive today! -I got "House of Leaves" by Mark Z Danielewski and I'm really enjoying it. It's a novel about... well, it's odd. -I also posted the rules for the Street Fighter 4 Tournament I've been loudly planning in the IRC for a month now. Go and check it out, and maybe sign up! You've got like two weeks! -...

I give up. I spent yesterday songwriting, but my schedule has gotten exponentially busier in the coming week. Getting sick derailed this entire thing from the start. There's no way I can record, keep up with my school, and honor my social obligations. It's utterly impossible. I'm really fucking pissed at myself for getting sick- and I am still sick, just less so- as I work very hard to avoid ge...

DAY 4 Okay so it’s not really the fourth day. I took days off to recover. Of course, what this has now resulted in is I have to work WAY harder, since I’m meeting a friend on Saturday/Sunday, going to class Monday and Wednesday, and seeing Brian Wilson in concert on Thursday. The deadline is Friday. This will be rough. I’m currently considering replacing “Of Empathy As A Male Trait.” It’s overt...

START OF DAY 3 I’ve been up for about an hour, thinking about yesterday. As I went back to work, I made some discoveries about what I wanted to do with the piece “Speak Lightly.” My attempts at percussion initially failed, so I’m trying another approach. What caused this was listening to the work in progress when it was halfway done, and not really liking what I had at the moment. The amount of...

DAY 1 I made a promise, like I am apt to do, to have my album recorded within the next ten days, since there are only ten songs on the album. If I don’t have it done, my buddy Rowr will be able to change my statuses and other terrible things to shame me for not finishing the stupid thing. Keeping in mind, though, that I am only talking about having the songs recorded, and not released. After th...

I promised this quite a while ago, but it’s finally done. I’m going to do this Lawrence Lessig style, and explain three issues and then how Audiosurf counters these three issues. 1. I was going to start with some anecdote about the way things were, but, I know a frankly horrifying amount of people that started playing console games last generation, or maybe with the playstation. They genuinely...

Cave Story on the Wii. Well, okay, that's kind of cheating. I know I already love Cave Story. My background is Quote and Curly Brace riding on Balrog. But man, there is going to be a hellstorm of Cave Story advocacy on this board once it hits. Right now, the game I am absolutely most excited about in 2008 is Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena. I think the first Riddick game is absolutely perfect,...

I'm assuming this to mean 2008 releases. I ended up playing Fugitive Hunter: War On Terror for my podcast ( Broken Lampcast on itunes) and that's pretty miserable. As for 2008 Releases, the worst game I played was probably Mirror's Edge, but that's not particularly fair since it has minor points. However, I can't think of a game as powerfully boring and uninteresting as ME.

So, as you can see by my wall, I’ve had some questions brought up to me. Rather than record another podcast answering them, I’m going to use my blog! Plus, I think I can express the Prince of Persia thing better with words. Issue 1: Prince of Persia. My issue with the game isn’t realism at all. Rather, it goes back to listening to a lecture from Jonathan Blow. I can’t quote verbatim, but one of...

This blog! I was able to just write for fun for a while, and while that fell off during the finals, it’ll be coming back in a big way next year. Click on the pictures to get the files, guys. My podcast! Started on an indignant whim, Jastaz, Dave, and I have had a real blast making it. It’s something to look forward to doing and an avenue where I can talk about video games as much as I freaking...

Well, not here. But if you were to go to my main hangout, you would find an album, and this week's episode of the Broken Lampcast. Check it out at http://brokenlamp88.wordpress.com

I don't think the main problem with the game is that it's split into three games. It's main problem is that I didn't like Starcraft and this looks like more Starcraft. As far as the move goes, I do understand to a point. Blizzard wants to get this game out in a more orderly fashion than most Blizzard games, and they want it to be stable no matter what. Less to add means less to go wrong and les...

So, I had started a blog elsewhere to talk about music, mostly because I was looking to avoid this username. Long story. Anyways, a friend and I decided to start recording a podcast, because podcasts seemed fun. Check out the first episode, at http://brokenlamp88.wordpress.com

This was inspired by going to the best place in the world, GameFAQs, and seeing how few people got what was happening, the direct lines drawn. There will be spoilers here, but I trust you gathered that from, you know, the fact that I'm talking about what I think Braid is about. I'm also not going to touch upon the more overarching themes of the game, such as Regret. No, I'm going to specificall...

So I like this Giant Bomb place. I had a little bit of faith in it since Jeff Gerstmann was involved- I enjoyed his tenure at "that other place"- but once more and more came out, and when the site actually launched, I was vaguely astounded. My sleep schedule was off track, and I was just staring at the ceiling at about five in the morning before I decided to get out of bed and check the RSS fee...
