9 - Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

When Call of Duty is good it's real good. The multiplayer is somewhat back to basics. Meaning there's no boost jumps, wall running or side dashes. It's just Call of Duty. The Blackout mode is well thought out and a ton of fun to play, because of CoD’s signature gun play.

8 - Tetris Effect

THE REZ TEAM MADE A TETRIS GAME, AND IT WORKS! All the music tracks are extremely well made and implemented perfectly within the confines of Tetris. It's has a beautiful and consistent art style that fits will with each song. Also the Tetris feels just as good as ever. It's Tetris, it's really hard to screw it up.

7 - Monster Hunter World

I've been on the Monster Hunter train since MH 4 Ultimate on the 3DS. MH4U really clicked with me in a special way, but MH World really hit the sweet spot. Mostly because it's on a proper console instead of a handheld. The game is somewhat streamlined for new players but still had that hard core obtuseness that the series is known for. I've put about 50-60 hours across both PS4 and PC and with a new expansion on the horizon I plan on putting in a lot more.

6 - Hitman 2

What else can be said about Hitman 2 that hasn't been said about the first one. It's smart, funny, and makes you think on your feet constantly. It's got a lot in common with the first one and that's not a bad thing. The “First” Hitman is such a good experience that the second didn't really need to improve on much, and that's why it's on this list. Also you can import the maps from the first game giving that game almost more than double the content and it's a super good deal.

5 - Florence

Florence is a mobile game that takes about 45 minutes to finish, and it sent me on an emotional ride. The gameplay is very simple, there is very little written dialogue, and it simply just works. The story it told though comic book like panels that are just beautifully drawn. A game about love, loss, moving on, and finding your dreams it perfectly made for mobile, and it well deserves your time.

4 - God of War (2018)

This game did two impossible tasks. 1, Made me care about God of War game and 2, made me care about Kratos. And really that's all it needed to do. The relationship between Kratos and Atreus is complex and you can see a change and evolve throughout the course of the game, in times in very heart wrenching ways.

3 - Dragon Ball FighterZ

This is the fighting game that I finally understood what people talk about when they refer to breaking their skill ceiling. Dragon Ball FighterZ made me think of fighting games in a more technical way. I studied what I was doing both right and wrong. I watched live streams of pros playing in tournaments to learn their techniques. I am still learning this game. I am still watching this game. I still want to get better at this game.

2 - Red Dead Redemption 2

When I loaded up Red Dead Redemption 2 for the first time I thought to myself, “How is this game going to top the original.” Red Dead Redemption 1 in my opinion is Rockstar’s best game, and I think this one comes really really close to it. The world has an insane amount of detail, it feels like it's been lived in forever. Dutch and Arthur are rich, complex characters that had depth. I could tell that the two of them really cared for their gang, just had different ways of showing it. This is a once in a generation game that everyone should experience.

1 - Marvel's Spider-Man

Marvel's Spider-Man finally got me to understand why Spider-Man is great. Everything about this game nails the feeling of being a superhero. When jumping off a building the music starts to build and at the moment you pull the trigger to swing the music swells on cue to make you feel like you did something awesome. The voice acting is so well done that the actors fade away and all I see are the characters in front of me. The combat is fast, fun and frantic I feel in control the entire time. Same goes for the swinging, I have full control of Spider-Man, he goes where I want himself to go, I feel like I am one with this character when I am swinging around. This game is something special, and it well deserves it. I’m gonna stop writing this so I can go swing around the city some more.
