Really enjoying this. Haven't completed, about 30 hours in. It is my first entry into Dragon Quest and reading reviews, starting with this one was highly recommended before moving to the 1/2 HD remakes. I was looking for a game that I could play a podcast or video while playing and this fit the bill pretty well. There are moments of story which catch me enough to pay attention but it is a relatively simple plot line with just enough to keep me interested. I can see more depth if someone would want it by getting into vocations and grinding but I've kept it simple.
The quality of life additions such as map markers, spells like zoom (not sure if this is qol or in original), and battle speed are just enough to take the JRPG crust off and have kept the pace of gameplay enjoyable.
