Independence war is a great game for those who want to simulate piloting a corvette/cruiser type spaceship and not a fighter. It uses newtonian physics which can be hard to get used to, but made for different combat.
The story line provides for branching opportunities which allow you to choose to join the rebels or stay with the union.
