When it comes to KH wether you like it or not relies heavily on what your personal tastes are for instance if you have a history of disliking JRPGs or Disney don't be expecting any revelations. But for me my extreme enjoyment of this game comes from a mix of nostalgia for Disney before it was about Hannah Montanna and High School Musical and general interest in the story of the games main characters. Now before I get into story lets talk about....
Combat
Even though this game takes a lot of elements from Final Fantasy this game is by no means turn based but you can't tell by looking at it. They way the combat works is everything happens in real time you have a "move select" bar in the corner of the screen you scroll through it with the D-pad and select your action with X, and I remind you this game is NOT turn based even though you select your moves in a turn based style everything happens in real time most of the time all you have to do is press X on attack until your enemies health bar hits 0. Pretty much every enemy has their own quick time event that lets you do a unique attack and im ussualy no fan of quick time events but the only button they ever use is triangle and they are entirely optional so they're not a big hassle.... for the most part but i'll get back to that later. Apart from attacking you have a variety of spells each with their own unique effects i.e. fire (or firaga depending on your progress) creates a spinning shield of fireballs around you for a second, heal heals you (big surprise) and magnet...... I don't know what that does. You also get summons based on Disney characters like Chicken little, Stitch, Genie and so on when you summon they help you fight in unique ways for example chicken little turns the game into an FPS and stitch helps you kill all the enemies on screen. You also get these individual forms that alter the effects of your attacks and gives you use of two keyblades my personal favourite form appropriatly named final form lets you kill quite literally EVERYTHING by flying around teleporting and slashing everything its just awesome and i love it. You also get ability points that you can use to customize the effects of your attacks and allow you to string longer combos. I think that might be enough on the combat.
Story
The story in this game is quite confusing and very hard to talk about without spoiling stuff but i'll give a brief summary of it.
Basically your this kid Sora (actually first your Roxas but that part is a little spoilery) and you along with your friends Donald and Goofy go around between dimensions based on disney films fighting and defeating the Heartless and Orginization XIII before they can corrupt the worlds and stuff, you're also searching for king mickey and your friends Riku and Kairi most of the worlds are pretty standard go here kill dudes beat the boss move on but there is one part in particular that sticks out, The Little Mermaid world now this part turns from a third person action jrpg into a rythm game there is ZERO actual fighting and just a bunch of quick time events and is probably my least favourite part of the game. You go from place to place on your Gummi ship which could aren't particularly necessary but their not terrible but they're not got just a weird little rail shooter style thing.
Graphics
There's not much to say here it looks like a PS2 game each world has a unique look especially the ones that turn your party into different forms I.E. the lion king world makes Sora a lion cub Goofy into a turtle and Donal into a different type of bird. The best looking parts are the beggining and end cut scenes which look just amazing, that being said most of the people in this game don't know how to smile it may not look to weird to other people but I just find it kind of creepy. There's a lot of cool little effects that happen with attacks but there's nothing more specifically that really sticks out as something that needs to be said other than the forms have cool little visual flares to them.
Wrap up
Overall Kingdom Hearts 2 probably isn't as fantastic as i think it is but it is pretty fantastic and is worth playing if you have the means to do so.
