The definitive open-world driving game has returned. Forza Horizon 3 represents Playground Games / Turn 10’s most confident expression yet of their car culture fantasy. The beautiful Australian landscape is a handcrafted playground full of activities and environments to drive through, either solo or with friends.
The sublime Forza 6 driving model has been adapted to be more forgiving as an arcade-sim hybrid, encouraging you to drift through turns and smash through obstacles, as opposed to the Motorsport ethos of driving cleanly.
It may take a bit of courage, but it’s well worth turning the HUD and driving line off so that you can fully react to the game world instead of the mini map. Plus the in-cockpit view is stunning to look through.
There’s often some egregious rubber banding with the drivatar opponents (and the AI traffic sure does love to block your path during a drift) so you might have to play around to find the right difficulty.
Or simply hop online to test your skills against real human players. The beauty of Horizon 3 is that you’re always making progress toward something - earning money to spend on cars and upgrades, gaining new fans to unlock more events and areas, or accruing skill points that now have re-purchasable bonuses (making it so you never reach a skill limit like in the previous Horizons).
In addition, you can also create your own custom races and bucket lists and challenge your friends to beat your times, while the return of the auction house ensures that the Forza community will keep the in-game economy interesting.
The game is absolutely gorgeous to behold. The sense of speed is breathtaking. It’s a delight to feel the subtle differences between each car category. This is easily the best driving game you can play right now.
