I recently got a chance to check out the new Mars table for Pinball FX2. Seeing as I’ve reviewed the last few releases for PFX (http://www.giantbomb.com/pinball-fx2/61-32513/user-reviews/?review_id=20488 and http://www.giantbomb.com/pinball-fx2/61-32513/user-reviews/?review_id=20489) I figured I’d let you guys know what I thought of the new Mars table.

Going Zero-G when you have multiball makes me go OCD trying to keep track of them all

There is a bit of a downside though. For most of the time playing on this table there is a big empty area in the center where there’s nothing to do. I say most of the time because you can activate missions that open up portals or make cranes past by that you have to hit. Those missions are where most of the fun lay, but not every mission opens up these new obstacles to play with, so again most of the time it feels a little barren. There is a special part when your artificial gravity machine is busted and you have to hit certain areas to repair it and in the meantime your ball is occasionally losing gravity and flying off the table for a bit. That zero G section is one of the more unique things from the new table.

When all is said and done the new Mars table is about on par with the rest of the original PFX tables. It’s definitely fun to play, but it doesn’t quite have the lasting appeal of the Core or Marvel packs. If you’re a diehard fan of pinball and you’re itching for a new table then go ahead and have some fun. Just know that this isn’t the cream of the crop.
