John Woo Presents: Repetition

I first played this game around its PS3 release on the PS3 at a friend's house. I had never played the PS3 and this game blew my mind. In December 2009 I began playing it again and I had a far less "OMGNEXTGENGRAPHICS" opinion and played it as a more experienced gamer. The graphics are pretty good. In 2009 they look a little dated but for what it is it works.  The real hangup I had with this game was the controls. The control of the character simply feels downright janky and throughout the whole game it's pretty unforgiving. The shooting mechanics work fine, but when it comes down to maneuvering your character and diving out of the way of bullets and using the Tequila Time feature (which is basically bullet time), it just doesn't feel right. The game also takes a really quick dive into repetitiveland and doesn't really change it up much at all. There are a few refreshing sequences that are different, such as a helicopter turret shootout, but it doesn't really deliver the freshness that the game sorely needs. As a fan of the straight up action genre this should have been good to me, but it doesn't work the way it should and that earns it just 2.5 stars.
