Scary. Suspense. Sickening. What Else Could You Ask For?

If you happen to be a fan of survival horror games and the Cthulhu Mythos, look no further. The year is 1922 and Call of Cthulhu sets you as Jack Walters, a private detective who is hired to investigate a missing person case on the small fishing town called Innsmouth. Bringing no weapons but only his wits, little does he know that the locals in Innsmouth isn't your typical residents who are a cult group and are trying to kill Jack in manners that you can't possibly imagine. They obviously have something to hide so it's up to you to find out what it is.

Call of Cthulhu plays a standard first person with an interesting twist. For instance, whenever you come across any disturbing creatures or events, Jack Walters gets nervous and starts gasping for breath. This makes the controller vibrates (Xbox version) and the screen distorts in an uncomfortable manner which shows he's getting paranoid and scared to death. This is called the Sanity Mode and if you are unable to control his sanity by letting him inhale and exhale properly or by looking to another direction, poor ol' Walters will simply use any weapon that he's currently holding and shoots himself on the head. Yes, the character will automatically commits suicide if he loses his sanity. Another cool feature is his ability to see through enemy's perspective but this only happens in cutscenes and not in the actual gameplay.

In terms of graphics, it's not exactly impressive or awesome but reasonable enough. The texture is very dark and kinda messy to give that horrific

 and creepy atmosphere that gets you shivering on the edge of your seat, but the highlight of the presentation is the audio in particularly the voice acting. Aside from the bad guys who sound and look exactly the same, Jack Walters and a few other allies sound really spectacular and realistic. By the tone of thier voices you could feel their emotions real deeply. Call of Cthulhu does involve a lot of sneaking and shooting around with a marriage of exploring areas and surroundings by talking to people, reading notes, finding useful items to fulfill certain objectives and so forth. As for weapons, you get to use them 1920's style such as the handgun, shotgun, revolver, Tommy Gun, crowbar and more. The safe points in the game are located in a convenient manner meaning that it is not out of reach and it is often placed where there's a boss fight or a puzzle to tackle with later so resuming back your game is easy.

In conclusion, Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of The Earth is an amazing game and it fits both the genre and the storyline perfectly. I really enjoyed the game. It's no doubt a great game for the FPS and Cthulhu fans and it definitely has a replay value to it. I love the characters, the whole Cthulhu Mythos plot and the game engine. The only complain I have for Call of Cthulhu is that the enemy looks too similar so there's not much variation of bad guys to kill. It feels like you're killing a group of clones or some kind of family tree reunion party. The gameplay can be a little stiff and inaccurate as you might struggle in interacting with objects and stuff. But other than that, this game is good enough for H.P. Lovecraft to play and cry because it is a beautiful creation that finally comes to life from story books to video games. Also, Call of Cthulhu is known for having many bugs and glitches especially if you're playing it on Windows Vista or Xbox 360. The bugs are so bad that it doesn't allow the players to proceed and finish the game depending on your specifications. For example, there's a scene where Jack has to operate a turret on a boat to eliminate enemies on an island but the aiming mode doesn't work. No matter how hard you try you can't zoom at the enemies. On top of that, there aren't any patches to fix this problem ever since the company who made this game went bankrupt a few years ago. However, there are forums a fan-made patches that can help fix those problems. My advice is to play it on the Xbox version.

Besides those flaws, Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of The Earth is an amazing survival horror game and it shouldn't be missed.
