COLIN MCRAE: DIRT
I haven’t played a ton of Rally games, but out of the few I’ve tried, this one is definitely my favorite. DiRT just feels right. To get the best experience out of DiRT though you will need an XBOX 360 controller or one of the supported racing wheels.
While I do like certain racing games – namely Trackmania United, Need For Speed Most Wanted and DiRT – I have absolutely no interest in real-life racing or hardcore racing simulators. I don’t want to tune the in-game vehicles either. That stuff just doesn’t perk my attention.
What does get me though is driving fast and staying right on the brink of disaster. It’s that feeling that you’re in control and confident that you can accomplish what has been set out in front of you, but you could crash at any moment.
Overall, DiRT is a fantastic racing game with great controls and impressive environments with plenty of challenges to overcome. Even though I’ve completed the main carer mode, I’ve continued to play DiRT to try and unlock the additional vehicles and complete the tournament mode. I installed DiRT early last year and it’s still interesting and fun to play, which I think says a lot about it’s quality.
