I'm not one for exaggerations. When I really like a game, I try to look back at previous games that have wowed me. None have like Rolando 2. Maybe it's because I'm starved for some great iPhone games, maybe its because Rolando 1 didn't get the praise it deserved, but I truly believe this is one of the best hand held game this decade.
The game picks up right after the original left off, but you aren't playing a mobile game for the story. The object of the game is to transport the Rolando's from beginning to end, using platforming, vehicles, and switches. You'll encounter several new types of Rolando's, including a chili Rolando, who's able to fly once he eats one, and the addition of water, which small Rolando's can float, and bigger Rolando's sink.
Developer Hand Circus simply did all the things needed for a sequel. It
kept the basic platforming mechanic intact, and added some brilliant
additions that never feel tacked on, and almost always add an element
of intrigue to the game.
The price is steep for an iPhone game at $9.99 (USD), but the game is completely worth it. I finished the game in around 5 to 8 hours, and that's without getting dozens of challenges. ngmoco has promised to continue to support the game after release like the original Rolando, when they added over 15 extra levels.
All in all, this an extremely unique game that gives me hope for other developers on the iPhone.
