All that Power

Entering the world of the original inFamous was amazing. I loved the way the game moved and all the beats it hit. It made me feel like I was in control of what I could do and when I could do it. Of course not being able to find those last two blast shards put a dampen on how I felt about the game... Nah, it helped. I loved simply looking for them and climbing everywhere I could. Of course this set the standards high for inFamous 2.

When I started inFamous 2 I felt immediately at home. The controls felt the same, he just moved a little bit faster but everything felt perfect. I am not many story missions away from finishing the game but I feel like I know how this game shapes up as a whole. The fun of climbing and traversing is still as fun as the first game, if not better with the ice jump and launching with the poles on the sides of buildings. There are plenty of missions, none of which have been me having to follow someone without being seen (which was my least favorite from the first game), and they all feel different and give me plenty to do. I work hard to finish all the ones before continuing on the story and they are short enough, usually, where I don't feel like they are standing in my way too much.

The story is good. It is not perfect with some choices seeming not all that large. On this play through I am doing everything good, but if I feel like shocking someone running with a blast shard it doesn't have an impact on my karma at all after being completely heroic. But overall I am enjoying the story and where it is going, the villain is pure evil and the always incoming threat of the Beast makes me feel like I have to move fast or everything is going to hell.

That is not to say inFamous 2 doesn't have its flaws. I have run into quite a few glitches and accidents that just seem like they could have been fixed. I have found myself stuck in logs and once I tried to jump off of a truck and was launched instead into the water off of a bridge in the middle of a mission. Another time I was fighting one of the monsters and was hit clear off into the water as well. Not being able to recover from that and having to start that particular mission all over again just didn't seem right to me.

inFamous 2 is a great game. These are the kinds of games that make just owning a PS3 worth it. Having not finished the game I am not sure if an inFamous 3 is coming, but my guess is there is one on the way and I can only hope they perfect every corner of that game to only leave me wanting more.
