Quick Review of Control Resonant

I'm more mixed on this game than I thought I would be at the start.

Pros:

  • The movement around the world is fantastic. The jumping and dashing mechanics feel really good.

  • Nails the vibe and aesthetic that Remedy games have come to be known for.

  • The story is as trippy as you would expect it to be after the first Control. I found the side content interesting and wanting to get through it all to see where that storyline would go.

  • The level design is really well done in most areas. The West Incursion Zone is a big standout.

Cons:

  • I think the combat does get very repetitive by the end of the game. Even the new abilities you get throughout don't shake it up enough. I didn’t feel like the secondary attacks offered enough variety to break up the monotonous combat.

  • I did not like the balancing in this game, even after the patches. I found myself going to the assist options and upping my damage output so the fights didn't feel as long and repetitive as they did with default settings. (Note: the assist options are really nice to be able to tune the game as you would like.)
