When they announced that AVP was going to be remade, I was very happy. Now its out and how does it fair with the current gaming market? This is a great game that would be suited for new/old fans of the franchises. It is not for any gamers looking for a "New" shooting experience.
The graphics are well done but, not outstanding. The Predators/Aliens received a lot of treatment from the artist. The marines are bland since they all look the same. The lighting is remote because of the subject matter. I think the graphics hold well to the current generation shooters. They do not stand out.
The sound is amazing in this game. The sound effects cause a feeling of dread and tension ie motion tracker. This was a strong point of the game since the original release. Aliens sound like elephants and predators sound like wood tapping. I will always love the sound of the pulse rifle.
The game play is varied. If you buy this game for single player, don't do it. Rent the game. This single player is bland and the AI is D.U.M.B. Like I said it's OK and should not be your only reason to play. The multi-player is were the meat of the game is. The online is fun and exciting. Despite what you may read or hear online it is balanced well. All species require a certain play style to dominate.
With the marines you simply cannot move around too much and if you do it by yourself you will be dead quickly. Aliens should swarm and disorient. Predators should observe,stalk and strike. Especially targets of opportunity. You have a smaller chance to succeed if they are played differently.
Buy the game if you love the franchises and planning to play online. Overall solid game, nothing exceptional.
