This a number puzzle game from TrueThought that can be bought on Steam amongst other online distributors.

Casual, this game is a casual game. There, I said it. Although that Everyday Genius name might give it away earlier. The casual brand comes from the simple game-play, design abd from the forgiving game-play mechanism. Same time if the numbers are your thing and you are looking for a challenge this game can offer that as well.

Idea behind the game is relative plain. Basically this a KenKen game. KenKen is the trademarked name for this particular logic number puzzle. Originating from the land of the rising sun. Think of it as Sudoku, but with counting.  Main screen consist of a rectangular (or two) which has smaller grids inside. Rectangular is filled with numbers, but no same number can exist on same column or row. Smaller grids inside the rectangular have a operator attached to the corner which tells how the grid is to be filled by saying how to fill the row/column. In a simple example grid having +3 means that 3 is the sum of grid values. A non-correct numbers can be eliminated similarly to Picross. This becomes a absolutely necessary thing on the larger puzzles.

After mentioning overall casual feel of the game and the simple mechanism there are still enough reasons to check this out. For one the difficulty ramps up significantly. Throwing more operators and bigger boards when unlocking new stages. Game is divided into six worlds. These are different scenery themes with simple ambient tracks and backgrounds (ocean, mountain..). Each world is divided int to multiple sections which again has hundreds of easy/medium/hard puzzles. This bringing the total number of puzzles 20 000+. Yes more than twenty thousand puzzles. Puzzles are also ranked with a par value giving only small margin for few errors. Unfortunately this becomes way generous on later levels. And even when going over the par there is no penalty.
Presentation is quite casual as touched on briefly. Ambient tracks are done keeping the massive numbers of puzzles in mind. IE. not intrusive. Tracks are in-sync with the overall theme. Forest world having light relaxing forest sounds, ie birds and what not. Graphics is mostly numbers with really nothing to write about.

Can't remember seeing a puzzle game with such a good range of achievements. These range from simple finishing 100 puzzles to more time consuming 1000 puzzles or moves. Another hook which makes this game to above average is the addictive game-play. At first counting might not sound so interesting. Individual puzzles are short and once rectangular starts to open up it is easy to finish and move to the next one and the next one.

Logical puzzles require lot of patience and even more if these are just numbers like here. Everyday Genius has literally tons of content and with it is simple game-play easy to pick up. And get addicted.
