Gang Garrison 2 is an 8-bit parody of Team Fortress 2. (A hard act to follow, as TF2 was ranked #118 in the best 200 games of all time by Game Informer, and #3 PC game of all time by PC Gamer) I found it while on my daily rummage through the fileshack website. Best of all, GG2 is completely free to play!
When playing this tribute game, I was actively comparing it to TF2 and another game I used to play, Soldat. GG2 has many of the bells and whistles of TF2, which give it some bonuses over Soldat with its different classes and likeness to TF2. There are 9 classes available to you, and they all feel diverse enough to warrant them. Many of the classes have functional and interesting secondary attacks to use. The maps are also varied and refreshing. New ones are being created by the community as well.
This game is multiplayer only, and as of right now has no bot play. The ease of creating a server or connecting to a game is wonderful, and I have not had any difficulty finding a server or anyone to play with. Unfortunately, the game runs into many lag spikes during the game and I have had several games on different servers with jumpy gameplay. The controls are efficient and intuitive to use and focus on the mouse, though there are times when I don't feel as if the game is responsive enough to my controls.
This game is a fun one to try out if you like TF2 and can find some people to play with. Ultimately however, there is another free game like this out there called Soldat, which is technically much better.
