Mike Tyson's Punch-Out is as much of a puzzle game as it is boxing. In order to progress, one must learn their opponent's patterns and how to respond, and when you are able to defeat a difficult opponent it feels oh so satisfying. The game requires quick reflexes, especially the final few fights which for some people may end up being impossible. Nintendo games weren't always designed to be winnable, and while certain people can beat Mike Tyson, I have never been able to. Still, this game is an absolute classic, and still, one of the best boxing games today.
The Good:
- A skill-based game which requires learning enemy patterns and how to respond to them.
- Iconic roster of opponents.
- A game you will remember and want to go back to every once in a while.
The Bad:
- The continue system causes you to go back, making it difficult to fight the same enemy repeatedly.
- Game can be punishingly difficult.
- Display lag on modern TVs can make this game virtually impossible to play.
