A Modern Work of Art If There Ever Was One

Shadow of the Collosus is a game that is not too easy to describe; there's more to it than what a person who has never played the game to imagine. The storyline  is one that seems so simple at first, but evolves into something   the player might not have been expecting (I'm not going to go into the story, so play it for yourself if you want to know the details). The visuals, which may be slightly outdated now, are mesmerising; they capture a level of realism while remaining unique in this dark, mysterious world. As far as sound, the boss battles have dramatic music (Which is superb), but in every other part of the game, almost all you hear consists of the galloping of the horse (Argo), the calling of his rider (Wander), small ambient sounds, and the passing wind (Which catches up all the other sounds, making them seem quieter and gives them a sort of echo). As far as gameplay, you ride your horse around them world, in search of one of several colossi. When you reach them, you must find a way onto them to attack their indicated weakspot. This game is different from most games in the combat system; the only enemies you fight are the colossi, meaning there are no grunts, minions, etc. This helps make the experience desolate (As if the game wasn't desolate already). Overall, Shadow of the Colossus was a brilliant game and I would recommend it to anyone who can appreciate a game often considered a major part of modern art.
