ReCore is a fun third person action game that has as much platforming as a mario game and lock on targeting as a 3D Zelda game. Throw on a metroid skin and you have metroid before metroid prime 4 comes out. Keiji Inafune was executive producer. Some of his pedigree from the metroid era really shines through. Some of the expectations you have from a 2D metroid are here fully fleshed out in 3D. Shoot the correctly lit beacons or traverse an area in a measured amount of time. It’s pretty good fun. I was playing this while i’m waiting for the privilege to buy xbox series x or ps5 disc version.

Life is a lot of waiting. Waiting for Tim Rogers to release his cyberpunk review, waiting for election results, waiting for hypocrites to get their comeuppance, waiting for probation to end, waiting for test results, Kal Penn’s partner waiting for validation, waiting for scalpers to get bored, and just waiting for what’s next. Life happens while you’re waiting. Once you figure that out you’re never waiting again. You’re in the moment. Backlog players get that. All of us refreshing web pages surely don’t. I recently purchased a Wii-U with about 10 games. I was tired of waiting. $300 later (the price of a Series-S) I picked up a ton of titles. I also have access to the E-Shop while it lasts. I allowed my gamepass membership to lapse because it doesn’t serve me well if i can’t even access the console the service was designed for. I’m sick of waiting. I’ll play a system i missed out on completely. No waiting.

The thing about waiting for videogames is that you can mark all of the milestones of waiting. It used to be magazine oriented and now it’s all video and youtube driven. A magazine in the john or a shared magazine on a school bus are way better than any nintendo direct i've viewed. Nintendo tries to thread the needle on showing a title, concept art, non-gameplay trailers, and actual game footage trailers. These tactics are not exclusive to Nintendo properties since every company seeks to emulate the model. ReCore was marketed no differently. With the paucity of Xbox exclusives it was essential that I played games that I could brag about. It took me nearly 5 years to get around to it. It might be the same before i play a PS5 or Series X. I’m okay with that.
