After getting a Xbox 360 (in 2010) as my first game I wanted to get Gears Of War because everyone praised it on different game related forums. I knew that the game would feel a bit aged since the game was released in 06' but I still got it and ooooh boy was I in for a surprise. During my playtrough I was bored all the way through the game even though I should have been excited to kill "aliens" and evil monsters. The only time I liked the game was during the cutscenes which were filled with manly/macho talk.

FIRE!
GoW's camera wasn't always where I wanted it to be and the aiming was slow but even though I changed the sensitivity to high, it didn't help much. I played the game on Hardcore and probably the most annoying thing about the enemies was that sometimes the enemies took a full clip to kill them even if I aimed at their heads and sometimes the enemies didn't die from a direct grenade hit.
The game's cover system also has it's problems. It's kinda weird if you want to jump over an obstacle you first have to press A to go to cover and then press A again to jump over the cover. If you stay too long behind the cover the enemies will come get you and your melee won't help you because you have to hit an enemy about three times before he's dead and by the time you get your  first hit you are most likely already dead.
Gears of War is an average shooter that has many problems that hopefully are fixed in the next game. If you still have some interest towards it I'd recommend renting it.
