By now you probably know Nathan Drake from his exploits in Uncharted 2, but what you might not know is that he went on a little adventure about 3 years prior to that. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, tells the story of Nathan Drake a young and brave ( well mostly) explorer who, sets out on a treasure hunt with his buddy Sully. But of course it's not that simple, in fact it's quite complicated. But, to make a long story short, Sully made some bad deals and now he, Nate and a news reporter named Elena have to escape from modern day pirates and of course, find the lost city of eldarado.
I wanted to play this game mainly to get a better understanding of the relationship between Nate and Elena. And to see how things were, gamplay wise. And I can say with a fair amount of confidence that Nate's first adventure, while good is filled with frustration and the overall story is not as compelling or rewarding as Uncharted 2. But, to be fair, I'm not comparing Drake's Fortune to Among Thieves, instead I will simply put my thoughts on the game itself, not what the following games have done.
Gameplay wise, Uncharted is a bit uneven, in that the pacing is a little odd. Instead of going from a shooting level to a platforming level and so on. The game will put three levels of shooting for every one level of platforming or puzzle solving, and thats not a good thing considering the fact that the shooting in Uncharted is arguably the games weak link. Its not that the shooting is bad, its just that enimies have the ability to absorb thirty bullets before going down. Not to mention the fact that drake can't seem to take more then two. And with the way the pacing is expect a lot of frustration before all is said and done.
Luckily The shooting doesn't drain all of the enjoyment from this game. There are some really fun platforming sections and aside from some weird control problems, the vehicle sections are also a good bit of fun.
Overall: Uncharted is really worth a look, simply to see how Nate got his start.
