In my opinion Uncharted: Drake's Fortune was the Sony triple A title of 2007, which is slightly odd given the relative lack of hype around it from Sony upon its release.
The structure of the game is pretty simple, effectively a blend of exploring ruins, a la Tomb Raider, and ducking behind cover and taking out waves of enemies, eg Gears of War. However, what stops Uncharted being a straightforward clone is the level of depth in the story and presentation. The fact that the development was inspired by Saturday morning serials is obvious, including the nods to another well known treasure hunter and his adventures in a Fedora.
The variety of weapons on offer is good, though fairly traditional; pistols, machine guns, sniper rifle, etc. Although I did find myself only needing to use the pistol for most circumstances, as it is easiest to get a headshot with. The vehicle sections did help to break up the pacing, and the jeep level had a good sense of speed. The fact that there is only a single boss battle was somewhat disappointing.
Overall, I would say that Uncharted is well worth a play through, if only for the sheer spectacle of the game. But be warned you may become addicted to unlocking every medal, like I did, so I would advise to wait for the trophy support promised, so you wont have to beat the entire game again.
