Mirror's Edge failed to live up to the hype on a lot of areas but it still succeeded at its main purpose which is parkouring in first person view. It's a stylish game and you can really feel the flow when running through the levels, but the quick-time-event heavy combat is where the game fails most and is enough to slow down the pace of the game to ruin the experience for most players. Another criticizable element of the game is the style of the cutscenes. The in-game graphics were spectacular, so why present the cutscenes with poorly animated cartoons, especially when they just don't fit well together with the rest of the game's presentation. The story mode can be finished in under 5 hours, but that's to be expected when the pace of the game is as fast as it is. But negative things aside, the atmosphere of the game is spectacular. Free running feels organic with very natural sounding sound effects and realistic (but not annoying) camera shaking. I thought the time trials were really exciting, kind of like a racing game but requires more creativity, which makes me wish the game had online multiplayer. Time trials race with 16 players? Why not?
