In all honesty I didn't really hate Lux-Pain but playing through it one couldn't help but feel that it should have never have been a game in the first place. If written as a book I think that the story of Lux-Pain could be something worth reading but put into a game it is just unappealing and dull. One of the biggest problems I have with Lux-Pain is that it seems that there was no effort at all put into the translation, the spelling is bad, very bad; I can't imagine that there was any proff reading done at all during localization it is impresive how many spelling mistakes are in the game, there are more in Lux then in this review and trust me the review has its fair share. I also found it kind of hard to keep trake of whats going on in the game because the story is all over the place and it is randomly given to you throughout the run of the game, which is OK if you can keep track of everything that is said to you but I found it hard to remember it all which lead to me saving alot so I could restart to re-read parts.
Basic Story
Lux-Pain puts you in the role of seventeen year old Atsuki Saijo. Atsuki is a member of FORT a secret organization that exists to eradicate a paricitic life form known as Silent. Using a power called sigma Atsuki is on a mission to kill the Silent and get revenge for for deaths of his family, thats right the story is super original. So after FORT gets wind of possible Silent related murders happening in the city of Kisaragi Atsuki is Dispacted to investigate and hopefully eradicate the source of the citys' Silent infestation. To help your investigation you inrole in the local High School where you use the students and teachers to get information about the other people around town.
Gameplay
Like many japanese games on the DS you dont have the ability to move around area's freely instead you go to different parts of Kisaragi by tapping on a overview map that is split into seven area's each with around four or five location that are used to advace the plot or just to randomly give you chances to get to know your classmates. While talking to people you will see two pictures of your surroundings the bottom touch screen showing you a full colored version and the top showing you a more grey and distorted version of your surroundings why is this important well ill tell you. Sometimes when you are talking to people you will notice that a wave of color will appear on the portrait of the charicter on the top screen. When this happens you have to quickly move the stylus across the screen to erase the color to find these little worms once you do so just hold the stylus on it, it will explode and then you read there memorys. While this happens countless times throughout the game every now and again the picture on the bottom screen with shatter which is the start of a "boss fight". During this you just have to tap or rub over little balls that appear do it fast enough the boss losses health, work to slow and you do simple, repetitive, boring.
Other little stuff
OK this game is short I was able to finish it in I think about six hours and to be honest it's not worth it at about $30 its just not enough of a game to spend the money. The charicters are quite forgetable you will find yourself saying "wait who is that?" time and time again and the ones that you do remember will get on your nerves. So you know if you are at your local best buy or gamestop and you see a cheap copy of Lux-Pain sitting there on the shelf do yourself a favor and just keep on walking.
