For those of you who don't know, Simon the Sorcerer is a series of point-and-click adventure games created by Adventure Soft. The game is full of witty jokes and is compared with Monkey Island 1 and 2 in terms of visual style and layout.
The first two Simon the Sorcerer games were superb, but does the third game involving our young wizard live up the high expectations? In a word - no. Infact, you'd be better of playing the first two games and pretending this doesn't exist and wait for the fourth game to be released in English (currently out in German, as of June 07).
Simon the Sorcerer 3D is not a point-and-click game, but is instead controlled by the keyboard and, hence the name, in 3D. This change really wasn't needed at all and gives the game a huge disadvantage in the score. If the game was presented like that of The Curse of Monkey Island, this game would have had a much higher score.
The main disadvantage of the game is the landscapes and graphics. Due to the game being in development for a huge time, the games graphics were badly outdated by the time it was released onto store shelves. The landscapes are also huge - this may sound good but when it just means running across an empty grass field, it gets really tiresome.
Luckily Simon's humour still remains, and slightly cheers you up if you aren't already severly depressed after running through the same gate you saw a mile ago. His sarcasam is still in tact and a few decent characters from previous games return.
I myself never completed the game as it was disgusting visually, but the story was decent. In summary, you only really want this game if you are hardcore Simon fan, otherwise just skip over this game and look forward to the hopeful release of the fourth one with high quality pre-rendered backgrounds.
