I saw the Iron Man 2 movie in theaters the Saturday after it came out. Really liked the movie, although not as much as the first. I never bought the first Iron Man game, because i did not like flight control after playing the demo. I ended up getting this on eBay for $30. While i will admit i spent a little much, it wasn't a bad price for a game that was just released.
The game itself feels unfinished, especially in the graphical department. The cut scenes are original xbox graphics, in game are BARELY current gen graphics, and some parts even last gen graphics. Many times when a cut scene is about to be introduced, you will think the game has frozen, but it hasn't. Much of the areas explored look halfway decent from a distance, but when you
get close, it just looks bad. But, graphics do not make a game, so let's get on to the rest of the game.
The game play i guess could be called somewhat boring. Missions range from just killing things, to escorts, defend stuff, destroy stuff, etc. I do like that you can choose Iron man or War Machine, as it had me play through the game twice using each character (also to get achievements). The two have different weapons but generally deal about the same damage. Some of the boss battles are a joke, especially on higher difficulties. For example: One boss fight you have to damage something and then get close and hit a "B". Well, it doesn't sound bad but it is hard as hell to actually get up to the guy and hit "B".
The main thing i really liked, being an iron man fan, were the costumes and unlocks. You get costumes by "getting a highscore" on a level. I'm not exactly how you get a high score, but i ended up getting all of them. Also i liked the upgrades. They make you quite a bit more powerful, and require you play a lot to earn points to upgrade. I started playing through on the hardest difficulty, got to the second mission, lowered it down to normal, because it was nearly impossible. After beating the game i went back and played on hard with all my upgrades, and beat the game (this time as war machine instead of iron man). To me, that added a little replay value.
I spent a total of around 10 hours on this game. I have 800/1000 achievement points, and i've played through on normal and hard difficulties, and got a few other achievements while playing on easy. The game takes about 4 hours to complete the first playthrough, and shorter as you know exactly what to do and you are more powerful if you play through a second time.
I would recommend this as a rental to any iron man fan, or someone who want's to rack up some easy achievements.
