I loved the first Red Faction because it was like the Half-Life for the consoles and then the second one wan't that great. So I though the third would be really crap seeing all the trailers and the change of direction. However the game is actually quite fun but only purely because of it's destrution. The game doesn't really do much else and can get really repetitive like imagine GTA on Mars but without kool story missions and all you have is repetitive mini games dotted about the map. Mars aswel isn't very full of life... as you expect really but theres no big cities to have fun destroying. It's all small camps really and well on the PC the framerate isn't very stabl so just aswel really.
Driving in Red Faction is alot of fun as it's very forgiving when the car tips upside down it'll go back onto it's wheels without kicking you out. So it's just plain silly fun crashing into everything and destroying all the buildings. Specially when you get massive vehicles like a mech and go crazy on everything.
Red Faction performance seems to be a mix bag where some systems handle it great, others struggle even though they're more powerful and there seems to be a surround sound bug. The development team said theres a patch coming but it's been a month now and still havn't had any fixes to problems. I'm playing on dual core and I get major stutter so I'd really suggest that you play on Quad core and some Ati card are having problems which the new drivers are meant to fix.
What I love aswel is the shooting because they nail the feel and it's alot of fun and I love the combat in general. It doesn't try to be realistic but frigging instead you're like a super soldier and can run up and take out crowds of people with a hammer like some super heroe which is hella fun.
Everything about Red Faction Guerilla is crazy fun but I just wish it made more to it like a good story with kool missions. I mean if this was GTA they'd make amazing storyline missions that play on the strengths of the game. Instead with Red Faction Guerilla is you just run round and destroy everything, which is alot of fun but does get boring after awhile.
