I really don't understand why a different developer came in and tried to emulate Infinity Ward and copy COD4 in every way. Sure you have to keep some ties to the original game for fans but...... all they've done is create an inferior version and everyone will be back to COD4 in a week. I've never liked COD games and I've never liked MOH games because they feel far too linear, scripted and just restrictive to the point that there are NO alternative paths, you just have to follow a set path and enemies keep respawning until you hit triggers on the level. Everything just feels so static to the point that if you shoot a lamp on the table, it doesn't smash or fall over like other games but just stays stuck. I felt like I might aswel be watching a movie seeing as I have no influence on what happens and just be pressing buttons for quick time events to move to the next chapter.
The problem is that I've played this esact game since MOH:AA and COD. They just havn't evolved in the slightest other than graphics and a RPG type system for multiplayer. Ok COD4 with modern warfare changed it abit and felt fresh and it did have some fun levels like the Chernobyl one which was well done and the one where you were up on the helicopter and have to bomb everyone down below. However they've gone back to WW2 and it just feels like "oh here we go again" the same old. I'm not sick of WW2 because theres movies I've just watched like Downfall which are amazing WW2 films and are very interesting. However I'm just sick of the COD/MOH franchise not changing in the slightest and it doesn't help giving me the same old WW2 setting each time.
The gameplay is just so dated and I hate the whole feeling of the gunplay because it does feel very PS2 FPS like. I don't like how floaty your character feels and theres no feedback to when you kill someone..... it's hard to explain but the whole gun combat and movement feels off. I've been playing Valve based FPS games and they manage to get the feeling just right, so maybe I've been spoilt all these years by Valve that I just can't play anything less.
The gameplay isn't the only dated thing because the graphics look like COD2 beefed up and thats not acceptable anymore, I mean Source which is over 4 years old looks sooo much better and it shouldn't. I looked at all the flat textures and when you walk upto tree's you see how they look like paper tree's and the textures looke like some kid drew them on. The character models look over shiney and plastic and they animated poorly. It just feels all very PS2 level of animation, like when you're watching GTA3 where they all move abit dodgey. I just looked at the graphics and it all feels very off and I just hate them and I hate the feel and just can't get use to it. The sound is another thing that I found to be off because there seemed to be a real lack of ambient sounds and ecology in the levels. Also the voice acting and script just seems real poorly done and......... just crap basically.
Another point is the story sucks so bad and the game is only about 4-5 hours long and anyother game would get low reviews for that...... for some reason COD is exempt from this because people love the multiplayer. However as you guessed it I can't stand the multiplayer. I'm used to games like CS and TF2 and UT3 which all have amazing combat and just feel right. They take skill to play and theres no meta game where you have to level up your character.. which is just dumb for a competetive online FPS, I hate that. All this does is brings the Grind into the FPS when they coulda done it in a better way like CS where it rewards you each round to if you won and how many people you killed and then resets all the time instead of giving you constant access to all the best stuff. The multiplayer just feels like a cluster fuck of people running everywhere and then you throw in all the perk things like the Dogs and artillery and it's just no fun. If you include all the problems I had with the single player like the gun combat, movement and the horrible engine then you see why I hate the multiplayer.
Everything about COD for me now spells tired and dated and theres just better games out there. When you add on the fact that COD4 launched a year earlyer and it was much better you then think what is the point of this game?
