I have to say that I didn't like one thing about this game other than the ambient music was kool. I picked up the two Diablo games from my friends to give them a shot as I've never played thme before. I'm kinda on a Blizzard roll right now as they have the Warcraft expansion out and Starcraft 2 + Diablo 3 coming soon so I wanted to get up to scratch on the storylines. I loved Warcraft 3 so I thought I'd give Diablo a shot and I don't like it at all really. I'm giving it 2 stars and not 1 because I have to keep in mind that it is dated and the game isn't totally horrible like say Big Rigs lol, I just didn't like it.
I found getting the game to work quite abit of work and what's weird is the game doesn't install to your hard drive but streams the content off of the CD so you have to keep it in the drive. Blizzard havn't patched it at all to run in higher resolutions or to bring a modern touch to it, though I spose it's not worth it anymore and would take too much resources to do something that wont make any money. So besides the game being old and having problems running it on XP everything was fine, no crashes and no issues with it not liking newer hardware.
What was weird is I got thrown into a game without any info and I had no clue what to do. I talked to everyone in the town and one of them gave me a clue to go into the dungeon and do something. The problem was I didn't know what to do because there was nothing in my quest journal and it was like...... I'm just gonna do in here and kill everything. So I did that but I was bored out of my mind as the environments felt like a pattern... boring and bland brown and grey patterns. I also didn't like how the walls would kinda go seethrough but not fully so you couldn't really see what was going on behind them. I hated the movement of the game too because you use the same button to attack as you did move which meant most the time I was moving around the enemy instead of attacking. I was bored of the CLICK CLICK CLICKING of the damn game and my hand started to ache. I hated the UI of the game too because it was just clunky and clumsy to use and I know thats because the game was old and it was one of the first of its kind but.... that doesn't help me out now and I played games like FF7 which played much better than this game back then.
Also I never got the sense of a story... sure there was a cutscene at the end and at the start but it was like.... wtf just happened? I shoved a crystal into my head which was the devil or something? I mean it was like wtf? lol. The game just didn't make any sense to me and I just hope when I play Diablo 2 that it'll start to make sense what the Diablo IP is all about.
Anyways Diablo is just a game that hasn't aged well at all.
