This game can be fun but I can't recommend it to anyone because it is too unstable. The server browser is probably one of the worst I've come across, missing basic features like a server queue and it takes ages to load. The game crashes alot and it runs poorly on Dual core systems, which most people have these days. There has been so many problems with the online server, disconnecting you a lot of the time and Punk Buster is really annoying. Also the game has a really poor netcode where the basic Ping to a server that is right next to you, is like 150.
When you talk features, if anything they have taken stuff away over the years. For example there is no SDK for custom map, no planes and there is no prone and the maps are very linear, even the conquest ones. One thing they have added to is how you level your class but right now the weapons and mods are so unbalanced that higher level people really have a massive advantage over new players, which makes things unfun.
The gunplay seems really poor and you can tell this when everyone prefers to use a knife in close combat, rather than a pistol. In other games where the guns feel satisfying, you wouldn't dream about using a knife. However in Bad Company 2, it is easier to get a kill by just running straight upto them while they are shooting at you and knifing you. This is mainly due to the jittery movement of the characters, the lag and the bad net code. Also the knife does this stupid locking you both into an animation and it lunges the attacker forward. The guns also feel really floaty, don't give you much feedback and even with mouse DPI down they move around too fast. Where has in other games like COD, UT and CS the gun movement is smooth and satisfying.
The only real advancement they have made is the destruction, but that was in Bad Company and Red Faction in 2001 had destruction lol. Don't get me wrong it is satisfying but it also means more load of the server, so it increases the lag and is probably the cause of the poor netcode. So the destruction is probably what is causing the stability issues. Also you keep getting stuck on the terrain because there's all this destruction about, it just feels like your shoe laces are tied together a lot of the time. For example if you're jumping through a hole in the way, building to building. You can often get stuck in the little gap left between the floor and the wall. The destruction often becomes annoying because objective buildings can be taken down by sniper Mortar campers.
This leads me on to how much of a nade spam this game is. Most the time you'll have the assault class sitting on their own ammo crates behind a hill, just spamming nades over it every few seconds. Then you'll have them using the noob tube which is equally annoying because it is all people use, which cements the poor gunplay in the game. Where people would rather use a nade launcher over bullets cause of the poor netcode. You also have the Engs who kill people with AV and AA weapons and they can also sit on the assault class ammo crates and spam nades. You then have the medics that camp by these people who are call camping by the ammo, to revive anyone that dies. Finally you have the Recon who do nothing for the team, other than spamming Mortar strikes which become really annoying. Meanwhile none of them are doing their real job so everyone just camps or the team gets rolled by vehicles cause Recon don't have C4 equipped or Engs don't know how to use their RPG to kill vehicles.
The graphics are really nice for a game considering the destruction but you do come across really bad textures. Also the performance is so bad if you don't have quad core, that I wouldn't even bother playing. This has basically meant that only one of my friends can run the game because the rest have dual core and get like 20FPS.
The sound design is great as usual with Battlefield games but.... I would really nice to be able to hear close up sounds. For example even if someone is running up behind you, you can't hear the footsteps like in other FPS. So it makes it really easy to knife. I've ran up behind so many people and even shot my gun behind them and they're clueless. What happens is someone can be right behind you and you're getting hit by bullets but, you can't hear the noise coming from his gun. It is very weird.
The Single Player is the most generic PoS I have ever played, even worse than MW2 so I recommend going straight to the Multiplayer because it'll put you of the game for life. I mean it was obviously an attempt at copying COD but it just turned out to be something you'll forget straight away.
Bad Company 2 could be a good game, but for now there are way too many issues and the game just isn't fun to play until they get fixed.
