If you loved Rainbow Six one to three or you love anyother one shot kill tactical shooters and you havn't played America's Army before, then you'll want to give this game a try. I didn't even like the previous American Army games but this one just feels more intense, more real and just has amazing sound effects. You will be ducking for cover with the amazing sound effects of the bullets flying over your head and crying for your momma, thats how intense and real the game feels. Seeing as it's based on realisim then you wont be taking many shots and if you do then you'll need a medic to come bandage you up to stop the bleeding. I just love how I get shot in the arm and I'm not as accurate or shot in the leg and I'm much slower and I just love how I'm laying there after being shot calling out for medical attension.
There I am alone, all my team have died or been captured and theres 10 enemies left. We're playing VIP so obviously you have to take the VIP down to win. I take out 8 guys and theres just one left with the VIP and my heart is pumping because I'm scared and all alone. Every time you see the enemy you need to get your shots on spot on or they'll have chance to regroup and flank you. I'm hiding under the ledge and the game has this fantastic natural cover system where if you're by a ledge or any type of cover and look through the iron sights then you look over the object. When you take ironsights away then you are back in cover and your head is hidden again. So it's this natural cover system that feels so much better than stickign yourself to the wall that really works well for me cause you just naturall life your head up or down. I forget the VIP has to get to a point and I lose the round and it's like all that hard work for nothing lol.
it's great because this is a team game and you earn more points and more likely to win if you stick together. If you're alone then you havn't got the fire power and you don't have a medic to heal you or you can't help team mates. So you die alot faster and you can't see whats coming where as if you're with people you can give cover fire. It's a great team game with headsets and friends giving orders out and keeping eachother alerrt.
The graphics are on Unreal Engine 3 so they are great, specially seeing as the game is free and the performance is good. Theres also a windowed mode and wide screen mode options with is great because some poorly made PC games lack them features. The real star of the game though is the sound effects because they are just so spot on. When you're moving your head up and down, in and out of cover trying to shoot at the enemy. You have lots of rounds barely missing your head and omg it makes you crap yourself and it sounds so real.
There are some problems with the game and I want to overlook them for the time being with the score because they are problems that will all be fixed as the game just launched. The server browser is really cumbersome to use because theres no server queue if the server is full so you can click on a server and load up and then be kicked out. It doesn't even tell you it's full and alot of people keep getting angry that they can't just queue up and wait for someone to leave. Also when you get kicked out the server browser reloads all the servers again and really I'd prefer that to be manual because it'a annoying having to wait each time. There also can be alot of lag at times and this is only because far too many people are trying to play than their servers can handle and I'll give it a couple weeks and all that should be fixed. Finally there are alot of bugs in the game too but patches are slowly fixing all those so there shouldn't be too much of a problem in future.
Be patient the game is fantastic once you get in to play it. Yes there are some problems with it right now and considering it's free and they'll be fixed shortly then just wait it out and then try to play the game. It's just teething problems right now and they'll all be sorted.
Edit: Ok it's been awhile since the game has been released and most of the bugs are still in there and they're really making it tiresome. I hate being killed because my ammo bugged out or the lag spikes at the start which make the game feel very clumsy. I wish they would be fixed but for the time being I'm moving the score down one because these issues need to be fixed. Also please improve the server browser so theres a queue on full servers.
