Spec Ops: The Line2012

4 out of 5 stars

This game is like Gears of War without all of the goofy sci-fi stuff I can't stand. It reminds me of 50 Cent Blood on The Sand for obvious reasons. It's got the running back tuck of GOW and allows you to control squad members in a fairly simplistic and effective way. It's a cover shooter with A.I. that can be very punishing. I'm sure Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War will have some amazing on-rails scenes but truth be…

Red Faction II2002

3 out of 5 stars

The default tenets on gaming sites is that PC gaming is king, piracy sticks it to the man, free-to-play mobile games have merit, shopping online has any human redeeming value, nobody plays old games, and Gamestop equals bad. I do not subscribe to any of these thoughts. I think irrationality on Gamestops business model comes from being broke and being young. Not understanding why your 8 year old copy of Madden isn't…

Battlefield Hardline2015

3 out of 5 stars

Will I buy the next COD? Probably. Will it be worth my time? Yes. I'll buy it at launch and beat it in a week and then trade it in to Gamestop making my purchase more a rental for about $25. I'll be part of the conversation, I'll have an opinion, and I wouldn't have been challenged in my thinking. If COD had tackled policing all those years ago maybe the well wouldn't have run dry by now. Battlefield Hardline is…

Batman: Arkham Knight2015

4 out of 5 stars

Superheros were not really a thing of my childhood. I preferred GI Joe, Wrestling, and other things more grounded in reality. It's impossible to not be aware of the cultural significance superheros had. For me the comics were mainly a tool for me to learn to read. Having pictures to go with words really was a boost to my reading. That transition for reading happened quickly enough for me to not read very many…

Mafia III2016

4 out of 5 stars

I'd really like to see Kanye's achievements for this game. I really hope this isn't the great era of America. It's true that America's greatest visionary's did their greatest works during this time. But some of the people with divisive slogans and platforms of today would have found themselves in their 20s and at a crossroads. Where would the end up? On the wrong side of history. Mafia 3 is an important game to play…

Pokémon Go2016

5 out of 5 stars

People all around the world are playing. Getting postcards is just plain fun. Since July 2016 there has been an app on my phone more frequently than any of the stock iOS games. If i look at phone statistics the phone that occupies the majority of my battery life is from an App. I’ve hounded Gamestops for overpriced accessories that I’ve shamefully worn upside, out of plain sight, on my wrist and turned into keychain…

Far Cry 52018

Say ‘Yes,’ brothers and sisters. When Ubisoft calls on you to play The Division, Stick of Truth, Assassins Creed, and Trials of the Blood Dragon. Say ‘Yes,’ to an audio language track that is not your native tongue or ‘Yes,’ to a 2D spin-off in Assassins Creed: China. Say ‘Yes,’ to Child of Light and the Fractured But Whole. Redeem your Ubisoft points and enable online play for Watch Dog and say ‘Yes,’ to Zombi (U).…

Red Dead Redemption II2018

2 out of 5 stars

This game is not timeless. This game is forgettable. The gameplay occupies the same futility as all the vehicles that became between the bicycle and the car. Or better yet, between Da Vinci's flying machine and the Wright Brother's plane. They all were improvements on an original design but truly accomplished nothing. Efforts at creating yet another way to remap controls to do something stupid like move a barrel of…

This Is the Police2016

2 out of 5 stars

Played a couple of hours (+5) in this game. It was a little indelicate with race issues. The fact that the game has a narrative that asks that you, in one instance, to fire all your black cops in order to appease the mayor its treading within tropes. I was looking for a good cop game because I enjoy law enforcement games and the tv show cops. There are some interesting choose-your-own adventure moments in the game…

PUBG: Battlegrounds2017

5 out of 5 stars

This game launched in early access for Xbox in December 2017. The game lived up to my expectations from watching streamers back in March 2017 on PC. Fortnite copied some ideas and created their battle royale game. At the time of this writing Fortnite and Apex legends are tremendously more popular than PUBG. After about 500 hours in the game i reached my breaking point and the pursuit of a chicken dinner was no…

The Last of Us Part II2020

3 out of 5 stars

United States Circa 2020 The Last of Us 2 closes out the PS4/XBoxOne era with a whimper. Naughty Dog is an overrated puppy mill in the 3rd-person action genre. There are glimpses of what the PS5 might do but this game lays bare the tropes and tired gameplay that has existed in gaming ever since the Playstation 1. Games need to evolve. THPS3 on PSX The PS1 closed out its amazing collection of games with enough…
