There are very few good Assassins Creed games and this isn't one of them.

Assassins Creed III is an absolute disaster of a video game, I'd estimate that only around 10% of the content in this game is actually good or enjoyable. Seriously, the bulk of this game is just boring to the point of exhaustion. Assassins Creed is infamous for having an excruciatingly awful futuristic plot line with the character Desmond Miles and his buddies and they have their own arc outside of the main Assassins stuff, and that's supposed to be the worst part of the game story wise. But you know you have screwed up with flying colors when the main Assassin content is almost as bad as the Desmond Miles content. Conor is a dull, humorless, drone and easily one of the most unlikeable characters in the entire franchise. The story's in these games are lifeless, barren, convoluted, monotonous, recycled, garbage. There isn't a single interesting or likable character in this entire game. Now, what about the gameplay? Well, it's just as bad. I meant it when I said that the bulk of this game is boring to the point of exhaustion because most of the gameplay outside of the main quests consists of trailing missions where you walk with or behind someone at a pace that's as slow as mechanically possible, or copy and paste side content where you just act as everyone's errand boy in some of the most shallow missions I've ever played in a video game. They're as simple as running to a marked point on your map, pressing B and then doing that a hundred times more. And for an open world game, Assassins Creed III is a very linear experience due to all the hand holding you experience in your playthrough, especially in the first third of the game. And the combat is just as shallow as the side missions, you just repeatedly spam two buttons, hardly ever switching things up and if you do try to use another form of weaponry outside of your base sword, hidden blade or tomahawk you'll have to deal with some horrendous controls and you'll often easily slaughter your foes as their friends stand around just watching it happen in front of them. Although I have to admit it is flashy enough to feel satisfying, but it's still way too easy and seriously lacks depth. There are a lot of ways you can earn money too, but it all feels pointless because there's really nothing worth spending it on especially because of the horrible lock pick system you have to go through to acquire loot from chests, and even without trying you'll still be the richest man in colonial times by the end of the game, but have absolutely nothing to do with it all. And the parkour, which is a staple of the franchise is really dumbed down because of the setting and time period, but that would've been excusable if you could fight in these large 19th-century battles like the trailers suggested, but nope. You get to do none of that. Instead, you get to tell your infantry when to shoot by pressing one button and man a fixed cannon and shoot at a few clumps of enemies. It's also extremely buggy, I've fallen through the ground into an empty abyss multiple times and I've had enemies infinitely respawn in one mission which forced me to redo the entire thing. Any potential Assassins Creed III could've had is not present in the slightest, it is boring, repetitive, and uninspired and gets absolutely no recommendation from me.
