Like the title suggests I didn't like this game at all. which is disappointing because I actually think the first Fable is a real highlight on one of my favorite systems of all time, the original Xbox. If I rated games on visuals and atmosphere alone Fable III would score much higher with me than it would in actual reality. But I expect more than that from a videogame. Is it fun to play, and offer memorable moments? or is it a boring and unmemorable chore to sit through? You can guess which one I think it is. As I said, the game's world and environments look great, but that's almost completely ruined by this stupid little bread crumb trail thing that escorts you to your next objective and for most of the game you'll be more focused on a buggy, glowing line than on the actual world around you. It also heavily discourages exploration or any sense of freedom that a game like this should have. Fable III is bogged down by so many poor design choices like the one just mentioned, such as the godforsaken Sanctuary. The Sanctuary acts as your main hub, your inventory, your map, your fast travel, your everything. These are all things that should be individualized not crammed together. And hell it wouldn't be so bad if navigating the thing was quicker and easier, but no, it takes an excruciating amount of time to do something as simple as equipping a weapon or giving someone an item. And that's not even mentioning the insane amounts of loading screens you have to sit through. It seems like there is a loading screen for everything you do in Fable III, and I know it came out in 2010 but I played a lot of great games that came out in that year that don't take nearly as much time to load anything. It's inexcusable. Now, what about the combat? well, you should probably stick to magic and guns because the melee combat is underpowered to the point of being useless. It makes enemies feel like damage sponges when they're really not, it's just due to how underpowered your melee weapons are. Switch to a gun or use magic and your enemies will be dead in mere seconds. And even if you opt for the definitive way to approach combat in Fable III combat is still boring, repetitive, and way too easy with no substance or variety in sight. This game is so dumbed down compared to the games that came before it, it's like babies first RPG, especially considering the difficulty and the fact that most of the missions are simple fetch quests or QTE music or cooking sessions. And if you trim away all the bs you have to sit through which takes up most of the game you realize that Fable III is really short. Like really really short. And of course, the story is also lacking any compelling, memorable characters that are only good for some quirky jokes here and there, the final boss fight and ending is super anti-climactic, and I find the whole generic good guy/bad guy morality system to be very underwhelming and gimmicky. This is a very disappointing game from a once-beloved franchise.
