Visuals - Dante's Inferno has an imaginative albeit grim aesthetic, which greatly sets the tone for the mindless hack n slash game-play to come. Grotesque backdrops filled with horrible imagery of hell's dark creations. It's uniquely striking and it keeps this throughout the entire course of the game. The game could desperately do with some pre-rendered backdrops though, as a lot of the areas you'll be hacking n slashing in are rather cramp and areas which should feel like a lavish exterior unfortunately feel like an interior with a roof slapped over your character and those same ugly, brown walls get rather tiring to look at. The grand spectacle is partly lost due to this. Most of the enemy designs are creative and very dark, with some varied depictions. Though they tend to get recycled a lot towards the latter half of the game which is a real bummer, because you'd think that you have the entirety of hell at your fingertips. It just comes across as pure laziness.
Level design - Now this my biggest gripe with the Dante's Inferno. Traversing hell is so dull, due to the overly simplistic and archaic level design. It seems like the game re-uses many of the same sequences, be it elevators, climbing cliff faces, defeating a certain amount of hell's minions before you can access the next area (ala god of war). but like it almost keeps doing this over & over & over and without any exploration in between these moments. Oh yeah...did I forget to tell you this game is extremely linear( even more so than god of war 1) The standout highlight (being the only one I can think of) is the circle "Gluttony". As you have to battle your way through the guts of a body-horror creature, it's pretty rad and the whole level doesn't seem to rely t0o much of the aforementioned sequences, but there were definitely some.
Combat - By the numbers hack n slash, a decent skill tree which you won't really need to rely on until you get to fraud. The scythe lacks some punch, less than I would've liked. The animations don't seem to change even for tougher larger creatures when using the scythe.
Overall - I think it's a serviceable hack n slash game albeit at a bargain bin price of like £10.
