It was nice to revisit this game. Destruction is still really fun 8 years later, but the game doesn't really have a lot going for it otherwise. To be honest, apart from the ability to blow every building into tiny little pieces, it's a fairly basic, generic, and rather bland open world game, both mechanically and thematically. Missions really lack excitement too, which goes for most of the side missions as well.
But this doesn't really matter that much, because the destruction physics and the primal pleasure of setting it all in motion is entertaining enough to carry the game through its duration, and that alone makes the game stand out. The game is never annoying or boring, and it does what it tries to do well. Just don't go into it expecting anything you can really sink your teeth into and immerse yourself in. It's an amusing time waster, and you should probably just switch it onto Easy difficulty and go on Thor-inspired rampages with your giant hammer.
