Ok, first of all did Sonic team just forget that the Chaos emeralds exists in the Sonic universe? If this Downloadable Content was coming out a month after the game released then why didn't Sega delay the game to the next month with Super Sonic playable and not being able to download or pay for him. Second if you missed downloading him for free and need to pay $1.99 for him then don't bother, Super Sonic is cool to play as Modern Sonic and Classic Sonic but it doesn't add much except an invincibility power up that makes levels very, very easy. As always you need to collect 50 rings and like in Sonic 2 will automatically turn Super but collecting rings isn't a problem since levels are filled with these golden donuts. So If you want the Modern Sonic and Classic Sonic levels to be an even bigger joke then this is for you.
