moving in the right direction, but marred by technical issues and too many fetch quests

What I was hoping to get form this game was something closer to the original game.

I will start with the negatives: the PS4 version (regular, not Pro) has severe framerate issues and glitches, especially when there's lots of action happening on the screen and when the game is saving. It did not bother me for the first 20 hours or so, it was not that noticeable. However, it eventually got worse and worse, towards the middle and end of the game. It was noticeable and irritating. Towards the latter part of the game there was also a delay in the audio-dialogue.The game also had some bugs that wouldn't allow me to finish up some side-missions.

Equally as bad, from the middle of the game and onwards, the game felt increasingly rushed, where the missions consisted of far too many fetch-quests.

Unto the positives:

The storyline and characters. Andromeda carries the same sense of adventure and discovery the first game did, it was exciting and quite addictive to explore the game-world and its many different locations and characters. The storyline is the driving force in this, it's fun and entertaining sci-fi stuff. The characters have much more personality and depth than in Mass Effect 2, and are more interesting to learn about. Another trow-back to the original game is the extensive amount of lore it has, which we haven't seen in a Mass Effect game since the very first one; there's lots to learn about the different planets, aliens, characters, and what-not.

A wide range of locations and scenarios. Also similar to the first game, you get huge world to explore. I'd say it's even bigger than in the first game. For the imaginary space-explorer this is awesome stuff. This is exactly what an epic sci-fi RPG should offer. You get a rich diversity of environments to play around in, from ice and snow to deserts and jungles. It covers everything. It's imaginative and creative. The environments in the game look very beautiful on the PS4.

Customization, mining and crafting. You finally have meaningful customization options again, where you have plenty of different armor, mods and weapons to choose from. Related to this is the mining, which once again is incorporated as a fun element of the gameplay ... if you like driving around in a space-car that is. The crafting too feels quite modern, where you can upgrade most of the stuff you have with various mods.

Less fan-service. Mass Effect 2 was bloated by juvenile and cheap fan-service. In Andromeda this feels restrained, similar to the first game. This to me is a positive thing, because I feel the game is not aimed at schoolkids and teenagers, but (once again) at a more mature audience.

Being a colonizer. The very idea of the game is unique for an RPG. It's an idea that plays well with my imagination and interest in science-fiction.

Other aspects I though were very good: the AI difficulty balance, music, and voice-acting.

To conclude: it is the sense of adventure and exploration that made this game feel very addictive to me; once I started playing it, I simply could not stop. However, the technical quality gets worse and worse the more you progress, exemplifying a game that was rushed to completion, this is also evidenced by the increasing number of side-quests that are just padding in the form of fetch-quests. For me, the positives do outweigh the negatives, I'm still glad I played the game. Would I replay it though, with the technical issues in mind? I'm less sure about that.
